Operation Identification
Operation Identification (Operation ID) is a nationally recognized burglary prevention program in which citizens make and inventory of their property and permanently mark their valuables with an identification number, preferably a Texas Driver’s License or ID number. This program is designed to:
- Discourage the activities of burglars and thieves by marking your possessions and placing decals on your windows
- Aid the return of stolen property to the owner
- Discourage burglars from fencing stolen property
- Assist in apprehending and convicting criminals caught with marked property

Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Etching
It takes about six to eight minutes, and it’s free. Allowing Dallas Police to etch a Vehicle Identification Number onto the window of your car or truck likely will keep it from getting stolen and sold for parts. VIN etching helps track stolen vehicles, and it discourages thieves from stealing them in the first place. This is a free service from the Dallas Police Department.

If you leave your car parked in the street or driveway, please remember to lock it and not leave valuables in the car at night.
