Carroll Wolford
Kind Neighbor, Wise Elder
Carroll Wolford, founding member of the Walnut Hill Crime Watch Volunteers In Patrol, died Thursday morning March 26. He will be missed.
Up until two months ago and despite his bout with leukemia, he faithfully patrolled the neighborhood and attended the monthly meeting of VIP as he did for the last fifteen years. Carroll freely gave of his wisdom and experience accumulated over the 82 years of his life.
Carroll and Edna, his wife of 58 years, and their 3 children moved to Dallas in the mid-1970’s from Minneapolis, where he worked for the Caterpillar Corporation. He was manager of the Caterpillar Parts Depot in Dallas until his retirement 8 years ago which allowed him more time for his favorite activity – golf. You could find him at Brookhaven Country Club twice a week steadily improving his game.
He participated in all neighborhood activities, helping organize the 4th of July picnics, the National Night Out for Crime Block parties, and contributed his voice of conservative stewardship regarding Crime Watch finances. Along with his neighbors Bill Marx and Paul Figel he was also an usher at St. Monica’s Catholic Church.
Steady as a rock, someone you could count on, an honorable man, a good neighbor, friendly, and like-a-brother – these are but a few of the ways his closet friends and neighbors described Carroll.
There are some men for whom duty and generosity of spirit are a struggle. Not so with Carroll. He lived his life and passed through his death with grace. He made it look easy.
