Volunteers in Patrol (VIP)

Volunteers in Patrol (VIP)

WHHA participates in the Dallas Police Department Volunteers In Patrol program. VIP is a non-confrontational neighborhood program designed to reduce crime through cooperation between citizens of Dallas and the Dallas Police Department (DPD). WHHA residents volunteer their time to patrol the neighborhood in pairs in their own vehicles that are identifiable as VIP vehicles when on VIP duty. All volunteers must commit to completing a mandatory DPD training to be eligible to patrol. Volunteers commit to completing an annual requirement of a minimum of six patrols, 1-2 hours in length, and attending 3 VIP meetings of the VIP team. VIP volunteers are trained to report suspicious activity but not to engage directly, enabling them to take an active role in crime prevention by serving as the eyes and ears for DPD.

The Walnut Hill VIP team is administered separately from the WHHA Board. The VIP has its own Bylaws and its own set of officers. The VIP Team is led by the VIP Chair/Patrol Captain, who, along with the other VIP officers, is elected by the active members of the VIP.

VIP Bylaws

The VIP Bylaws were updated in January 2025. Click here to see Article 1 – Organization and Article 2 – Membership (Sections 2.1 Eligibility and 2.2 Active Status) of current VIP Bylaws.
